The 18-year-old singer won a standing ovation for her version of Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love you

and a well deserved four thumbs up from the Judge’s.

Even judge Simon Cowell was impressed: “You’re really likeable, Lucie, you’re really, really good.”

Lucie, from Pentyrch, near Cardiff, admitted afterwards she was nervous but said she was being supported by family and friends. “I’ve got my whole village behind me, they’re all rooting for me. I just want to get out there on the big stage,” she told the hit ITV show. But Lucie is no stranger to nerves after performing in front of 40,000 people at the World Scout Jamboree in 2007.

She fronted a band called The Adventure who were picked to sing the offi cial song Jambo at the event in Chelmsford Park, Essex. The song was released as a single and hit 91 in the charts. Chris Foster from the Scouts Association said scouts queued to have their photo taken with her.
He added: “She was absolutely fantastic. She had a wonderful voice and an incredible presence on stage. We’re so proud of her.”

Lucie is now hoping to follow in the footsteps of previous X Factor winner Leona Lewis and notch up a No 1 hit. And her delighted singing coach Louise Ryan believes it is possible. “Whatever kind of singing she puts her hand to she can do it.”

Another highlight on last night’s show was Kirsty and Jack, known as Combined Effort. The pair, both 19, were engaged but split this week.

They failed to impress the judges but Simon persuading them to get back together again.
