CONTROVERSIAL X FACTOR twins John and Edward Grimes landed the highest number of public votes at the weekend, according to The Sun.
The bombshell has sparked fears the Irish duo could give Simon Cowell his “worst nightmare” and become the shock WINNERS of this year’s show.
The news emerged as police were called to control hundreds of hysterical fans who yesterday laid siege to the X Factor house, where the telly finalists are staying together.
The Irish twins topped the phone poll for their big band rendition of Ricky Martin’s ‘She Bangs’.
An insider said: “It is extraordinary. John & Edward were miles ahead of any other act. Whoever wins the X Factor, you can usually guarantee they can sing.
“If John and Edward win, it will no longer be a show about great singers – it could be disastrous. But you know what? It could happen.”
Some viewers complained their votes for other acts were accidentally allocated to John and Edward when they called the voting lines.
But last night an ITV spokesman insisted there were no irregularities.
The duo’s mentor Louis Walsh said: “Kids love these guys – everywhere I go they come up to me and tell me they think they’re great.
“They’re young, they’re fun and they have the likeability factor, which is what this show is all about. I know some don’t like them, but they should back off and leave them alone. They put a smile on your face – what’s wrong with that?”
Music agent Jonathan Shalit said: “The twins can’t really sing but they are likeable. If they win, it would be Simon Cowell’s worst nightmare.
“Look at the success he’s had with Leona Lewis in America. Can you seriously see him taking John and Edward across the pond and telling everyone they’re the next big thing?”

Danyl & Stacey at Logger heads ???
If they are at loggerheads, X Factor finalist Danyl Johnson and Stacey Solomon were doing a good job of hiding it as they emerged from their temporary home today.
Smiling broadly and posing for photographers, the two solo singers appeared to make a point of dispelling the rumours that they are anything but the best of friends.
But their pasted on smiles looked less than natural as the pair left the north London house they share with all the finalists.
The X Factor has been rocked by another bullying row after it was claimed teacher Danyl, 27, turned rival Stacey into a sobbing wreck.
Danyl has allegedly been reading out single mother Stacey stories published about her sex life and branding her a bad mother, against her will.
The claim comes after a week which saw talented singer Danyl’s popularity dramatically tumble, after he ended up in the bottom two on last weekend’s show, while Stacey’s popularity soars.

i think sarah October 27, 2009 at 12:04 pm is a prime example of the kind of people who are turning this show from a chance for real talent to succeed in the music industry eg leona lewis to a total joke and a popularity contest. john and edward may be entertaining and sweet boys but they are not talented singers. can they really sing better than leona or alexandra burke? are they even nearly as talented?! i agree that it is sad for them to be booed on stage etc but they are awful singers and really do not deserve to be there. how stupid are the voting public? miss frank are head and shoulders above those little elves and they and Louis should feel ashamed that a legitimate act and a real contender to win have been kicked out. disgraceful.
OMG OMG OMG I HATE JOHN&&EDWARD!! they do my head in! If they win that would be a total waste of the show because some people on X Factor have brill voices such as danyl johnson && stacey. there are loads of people which are very like-able such as Lloyd and Joe but JOHN && EDWARD are soo annoying i dunno why ppl like em!! i cant believe miss frank went out.. they were an amazing group and ppl with brill voices shouldnt go out and john & edward are just ruining it for all their futures. why dont the irish twins do a pantomime or a show or something but not waste ppls popstar career!! its such a shame…

I love john and edward i think they are great performers, and not bad singers its not lke they sing out of tune they are no different to robbie. now will someone please tell me y they think lyod is a good singer i always watch chringing i thinkhe is worse singer than the twins by far, the judges are always out to bad mouth louis every year its joke peoples oppion changes after the judge say wat they think listen for yourself dont listen to judges

If you remember back to the first Xfactor that guy Steve, can’t remember is last name win the X factor, he couldn’t sing, the twins are a little better than him. He was dropped from Simon’s label not long after he win because he didn’t get to number 1. So if the twins did win it would depend how well they did in the charts with there single. Perhaps there is something in the contract about it. Also Leon Jackson won 2 years ago and he was dropped after a year because his album didn’t reach number 1.
