The stars continuing quest to entertain although  apparently, being stymied by a crippling case of stage fright.

Robbie who has just unveiled the first single from his latest album, Reality Killed the Video Star, said that his fear of live performance had stopped him embarking on a mammoth tour like his former bandmates.

“I get tremendous stage fright that’s getting in the way of me enjoying it – awful, awful. Growing more and more as I get older … it’s terrifying,” he told Ken Bruce show yesterday.

“I want to find a way around it. I will do.”

Williams, whose last album, Rudebox, flopped on release in 2006, said the problem was getting worse with age.

“The last tour some nights would be a breeze, other nights I’d be up there on stage and I’d be having the worst time imaginable,” he said.

“And it gets stronger as you get older and it scared me – really, really scared me.

“So I’m going to put the touring on hold until I can figure out how to do a stage set that takes care of it for me and you know? I want to do a tour like Take That.”

Williams said he was “taking baby steps” with the new album, the title of which is a nod to the record’s producer, Trevor Horn, whose band Buggles released the song Video Killed the Radio Star 30 years ago.

The 35-year-old singer, who dropped out of sight for two years, is now busy trying to catch the public eye again.

Earlier yesterday he told the Chris Moyles that he would like to appear with his former band once again.

“I was with Gary Barlow a couple of weeks ago and we watched the whole show together at mine and I just thought it’s one of the best shows I have ever seen,” he said. “It was an amazing show and I loved it.

“It made me want to be with them in the band.”
