Pop trio N-Dubz scooped two awards at the Mobos in Glasgow winning best UK act and best album.
Alexandra Burke may have won the XFactor, but it was runners up JLS that cleaned up at the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards in Glasgow last night.
JLS were stunned when they picked up two awards – beating their reality show rival to the Best Newcomer trophy.
The band – comprising of Jonathan ‘JB’ Gill, Marvin Humes, Oritse Williams and Aston Merrygold – also won Best Single for their No.1 hit Beat Again.
Accepting one of their awards, Marvin said: ‘The band’s success would have been inconceivable just a year ago. I just want to say thank you to all our supporters who are here tonight.
‘I never thought we would be here. I never thought we’d get nominated, and I never thought we would win two awards.’
More emotion came when Jermaine Jackson and his sister La Toya led tributes to their late brother Michael Jackson.
The King of Pop was posthumously honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which was accepted on his behalf by Jermaine.
Holding her brother’s hand on stage at the city’s SECC venue, La Toya admitted she was ‘not at all’ coming to terms with the shocking death of her younger brother on June 25.
JLS were one of several acts to perform last night, including N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Kelly Rowland and David Guetta, Taio Cruz and American singer Keri Hilson – who also co-hosted the awards with Radio 1 DJ Reggie Yates.
JLS and Alexandra were nominated in Best Newcomer category alongside new Sugababe Jade Ewen, who has received abuse from Keisha Buchanan fans after she was announced as the original band-member’s replacement last month.
Along with JLS, the other big winners at the annual ceremony were London trio N-Dubz, who were named Best UK Act and Best Album for their debut Uncle B.
Disappointingly for fans, superstar Beyonce Knowles failed to show after winning Best Video for Single Ladies (Put A Ring Of It) – the same promo Kanye West infamously declared should have won Best Female Video at the MTV Music Video Awards last month instead of Taylor Swift’s You Belong To Be.
